Here are some interesting photographs I witnessed at the Photographers Gallery at the Victoria and Albert Museum.
First I discovered that my favourite author was also a photographer and next,
Photographer Julia Margaret Cameron had taken portraits of the real life Alice!
This took me back to my time in Oxford when I had created a series of photographs representing Wonderland in Modern Times. Below is my project brief.
The theme for my final assignment is Alice in Wonderland, but with a modern take on the classic characters. On 4 July 1862, in a rowing boat travelling on the Isis from Folly Bridge, Oxford to Godstow for a picnic outing, 10-year-old Alice asked Charles Dodgson to entertain her and her sisters, Edith and Lorina, with a story. Dodgson regaled the girls with fantastic stories of a girl, named Alice, and her adventures after she fell into a rabbit-hole. With the help of my friends at the Oxford campus, I want to recreate the characters with basic hints and portray that in my photography. I’m going to capture portraits with a play of light and colour. I also plan to keep in mind that the people’s persona match those of the characters.
