Figure Drawings

at RCA Kensington

I attended 5 classes of figure drawings over the winters at RCA Kensington. We learnt to break the boundaries of traditional figure drawings and use different materials to create indexical marks which captures the essence of the subject. Some of the techniques we used were

Drawing with pencils taped to our body

Thinking about light and shadow through erasure

Acrylic painting with sticks and screws

and traditional charcoal drawings but within 10 seconds

The pieces which I really enjoyed experimenting with was ‘drawing’ with watercolour. Using solely watercolours, I tried to draw out emotions of the subjects, their movement, light and shadows.
