Photography and Frottages

In my attempt to give an identity to the nameless dead, I used frottages from the Highgate and Brompton Cemetery which had texts such as dear mother or names of young children. Printing photographs of the memorials from the Crossbones on these frottages translated into these ethereal pieces of work. I thought about layout, how the images would turn out on different frottages, context and the materiality of the pencils and paper used. Hence, some were more successful than others…
